Payroll Settings

Payroll Settings exposes shared defaults used for hourly overtime and partial-period pay. Review the intended effect before saving: a setting change is not a recalculation and does not rewrite locked payroll or issued payslips.

Access needed

Access depends on your assigned permissions and workflow scope.

View payroll defaults
organization.read

The Payroll view also requires the Payroll plan feature. This does not grant saving shared settings.

Role and permission labels

Typical responsibility: Authorized organization reader. Role names alone do not grant access.

  • Read organization settings and structure
Save settings or restore an offered default
organization.settings.manage

Viewing the catalogue additionally requires organization.read. Payroll management alone does not grant settings changes. Capture timing and locked-run rules still apply.

Role and permission labels

Typical responsibility: Organization settings administrator. Role names alone do not grant access.

  • Manage workspace settings, calendar and holidays
Use Manage employee pay
All:employees.reademployees.compensation.read

The shortcut opens separate dated compensation. Writes additionally require employees.compensation.manage.

Review the available defaults

Open Pay configuration → Payroll Settings. The Employee pay shortcut opens the separate dated compensation workflow; it does not set a workspace-wide salary. Use Employee pay records for that process.

SettingPurpose and documented range
Overtime pay multiplierMultiplier captured when an Attendance timesheet is submitted; range 1–5, default 1.5.
Standard working hours per month for hourly payUsed to calculate the hourly rate for overtime; range 1–744, default 173.33.
Pay for a partial regular pay period is prorated byAll calendar days, working days, or None. The default is all calendar days. None uses full-period pay under the applicable calculation rules.

These are configurable defaults, not a recommendation for your employment or payroll policy. An expected setting may be unavailable in the current workspace; do not substitute an unrelated field.

Change only an approved setting

  1. Confirm the effect and current value

Check the setting description, applicable bounds and the affected payroll or Attendance workflow.

  2. Enter the intended value

Editing creates an unsaved draft. Review validation messages and the unsaved-setting count.

  3. Save or discard deliberately

Select Save changes only when the intended values are approved. Cancel discards the unsaved changes.

  4. Verify the saved result

Wait for success and revisit the settings to confirm the values. If saving partly fails, recheck what actually saved before retrying remaining changes.

Review unsaved changes
Cancelled; saved monthly hours remain173.33.

The example temporarily entered 174 monthly hours, then selected Cancel. The saved setting remains 173.33. No calculation default changed for the demonstration.

Use Restore default when offered only after reviewing its confirmation and the documented default. It is a saved configuration change, not merely clearing the input. No default was restored in this demo.

Understand when values are captured

For Working days, payroll fixes the period's working-day count on its first calculation and reuses that count on later calculations. Do not assume a calendar change will rebuild an existing run's recorded denominator.

Standard monthly hours is used in the overtime hourly-rate calculation, adjusted for pay frequency. Inspect the relevant payroll result after an authorized calculation; changing this value does not itself update a transaction. See Payroll overtime and Calculate and review payroll.

Investigate rather than override history

Payroll defaults are organization settings. Their configuration history is distinct from the Payroll service's Activity log; do not assume every shared-settings edit appears in the payroll event list.
